Lately, I have really been missing my mother. I know, someone might
think that sounds corny. But she left us a full 21 years ago - that's a
long time. I miss her humor, her kindness and her insights - even
though I'd fight her ideas tooth and nail sometimes - well, most times,
to be honest! But even though I thought of her as hopelessly
old-fashioned, I still loved and respected her.
I'm noticing that there are a lot of people in the same boat recently - they either miss their mom who has left, or are missing feeling a deep connection to their still-around mom. Last week, I worked with a gal in an EFT session for Fear of Public Speaking. I had her pre-visualize the night before her gig, and she immediately exhibited the classic symptoms of public speaking terror: fast heart-rate, sweating, fear of people laughing at her....So we started tapping and getting to the details.
I couldn't figure out why we were going so slowly - usually we can get to the core in a few minutes, and reduce the intensity by at least half. We started at a 10, slowly going to an 8, 7 - I knew there had to be a way to get under it all.
She was only 6 years old when her step-father "accidentally" killed her mother. He had been trying to shut her up with a pillow because she was being "too loud and freaking out."
Gee, I wonder why she had constricted breathing, tight throat and a painful heart when she thought of public speaking!
Isn't it amazing how the physical manifestations we experience directly relate to the fears and cellular memories we carry around!?!
When she finally told me about how her mother died, I knew that that was the clue I'd been waiting for. We cleared that out of her system, and she signed off the call feeling happy and excited about public speaking. Here's what she says:
