Just this morning, I got a note from what purported to be Paypal saying I had bought something for $329.53. Quite shocked, because I had in truth bought no such thing, I scrolled down to find, in big capital letters: CANCEL THIS PURCHASE - underlined in link-blue, of course, to (supposedly) link to "Paypal."
When I went to click on the link, I stopped, thinking, hey, wait a minute - I've been using Paypal now for over five years, and have never seen such a thing - is this for real?
I forwarded the email to their scam department, [email protected], to find out. And I called them, too, just for good measure (888-221-1161).
Good thing I didn't click on that link! It's just one more (%@!!**%^) way scammers are splashing viruses all over the net.
You click on the link, it looks like Paypal's page setup, and so you sign in with your password. BIG MISTAKE! It ain't Paypal, and you just gave away your password! And you got your computer exposed to more viruses. Pleagh. Pardon me, but it pisses me off people do this crap.
If you did sign in through that link, go IMMEDIATELY to your Paypal account and switch your password to a new one - hopefully that will be quick enough to deter anyone's access to your account.
Remember that Paypal only sends emails using your name - never Dear Member. If it hasn't got your specific name on it, it ain't from them! Beware!

Hi Angela,
Thanks for the heads up, and no I don't mind the swearing in this case - maybe you put it a bit mildly!
Just one thing, if this happens and you have to change your password, it would be a good idea to register a new email address with Paypal, and discard the old one, to make things a little more secure.
All the best,
Stuart Elliott
