A friend asked me today to "Share with me a risk that you have taken recently in your life, and how your life has been altered out of taking that risk."
I just finished raising the money I need to go to the business training next week. From the day of my first phone call, it took 8 days and 11 phone calls. And the last person ($2000) doesn't even want interest. Yeeha! I've never raised capital for my biz before.
Here's the list that I sent my friend:
WHAT IS RAISING CAPITAL?
I learned that raising capital is not begging for money:
it is sharing my successes and the wealth of my being
it is an opportunity for people to gain more from giving me money than they would get in the ordinary banking world
it is an opportuity to open further and receive graciously that which I WANTED, but on a core level never thought I could/would receive. And
and it is a track that others can step into and have their own success by using elements of mine.
SELF-WORTH
I learned that the fear I had in the beginning of this process was absolutely nothing compared to the fear and turmoil I used to experience when I was broke, hungry and angry. If I can do this - wow - what ELSE can I do?
I learned to trust myself - that what I am doing has value and merit, and even if it doesn't eventually manifest in the form in which I see it now, it will manifest in a form that does have value.
All I need to do is keep my focus.
LANGUAGE
I learned that the more I spoke about what I was doing in the simplest terms, without going into depth about it, the more people were inclined to say yes, because they were honestly interested in supporting me and my dream, rather than micro-managing what it was I was going to do, how much I was going to raise, and how I was doing it, etc.
I learned that I actually could say, "I'm asking for support, what would you be comfortable doing?" more than once - today I even asked it four times, and on the fifth I said, "This is important to me, can you stretch a little?" And I got the money. They really did want to help, and they were testing my mettle.
I learned that I really need to refine my language to fit the person I am speaking with - the non-biz people could care less about marketing strategies and intellectual property protection and so on. They do care about my succeeding with my dream. Whereas the biz-oriented people wanted to hear those biz-genre terms, felt more comfortable hearing them, and are excited for me that I am going for it.
FAMILY AND CLOSE FRIENDS
I learned today that, although my relationahsip with my brothers and cousins was damaged badly in the past by my insecurities and irresponsible actions, they are still willing to be glad for me. And here I thought they simply disliked and didn't "approve" of me and what I do.
I learned that my money history will take a bit to clear, but that when close friends said no, it only meant that they wanted to see some successes first.
And that they still love me.
WHEN THEY SAID NO
I learned that a "no" was simply an opportunity to say, "Thanks for listening," and, "if you are interested in the future, please let me know. And if you know of anyone who would be, I'd appreciate being introduced."
I learned that a no had nothng to do with my self-worth or value.
I learned that a no had only to do with how I languaged what I said.
I learned to say, "Thank you, anyway" graciously, without a hint of resentment that they had said no.
I learned that a no could still be an opening for a future interest.
And today I learned from one person that a no could be hilariously funny, clean, clear, easy to accept, and final all at once.
I learned to ask, even though they said no, for their love and continued wishes for my well-being and success, coming from a desire to spread the power of heart-centered thought.
LOANS
I learned that there is a site called prosper.com where you can apply for a loan through a freebie membership and by being a member of the site's groups you get a discount on percentage rates. It's a clean, easy process, and I wouldn't have found it if I hadn't been thinking up every inch of creative financing possible, or determined to do what it took to complete my goal.
KINDNESS, GENEROSITY, AND A NEW GROUP OF FRIENDS!
I experienced more generosity and kindness from people I have never met in the past weeks than I think I believed possible.
Having received that, I now feel more generous, myself.
I am one more person who has climbed successfully out of the mire of poor-me, and am further on my path to wealth-being me than ever.
I found a group of people who I admire and whose skills, knowledge and expertise I wish to emulate - and of which I am already a part! Awesome! I have showed up, they recognized me, helped me get to the doorway, and now all I need to do is walk in and continue playing the Game.
I feel absolutely awesome. And this is only pre-school! It's been an amazing journey, and one which has changed me for life. Thank goodness! Thank Me! And YOU! See you in LA in a week!
